Helpful Crosswinds URLs and Info

The most important URL at Crosswinds is to our Updates page. I post to it almost everyday. Read this page often, as this is where all information regarding anything new or any problems with Crosswinds will be posted.

Helpful Pages

Once you have your site up and running, be sure to submit a listing to either the Member Directory or the Business Directory, depending on which is appropriate for your type of account. We have been watching the logs lately and both of these are getting a lot of traffic. Adding your listing will help you get more traffic to your site!

Other Helpful Stuff

Here's something new we found recently that we think is a great resource for our members for getting more traffic to your site. Take a look at trafficX and see what we mean. We're sure you will agree!

If you're looking for great stats for your site, we highly recommend eXTReMe Tracking. With the eXTReMe Tracker you get every advanced feature required to picture the visitors of your website. Conveniently arranged, numbers, percentages, stats, totals and averages. All the way up from simple counting your visitors until tracking the keywords they use to find you.

Another great resource we've found is the Free Site. The Free Site offers the web's largest collection of freebies. Their free stuff listings are the most complete on the net. If you need free stuff for your site, be sure to check them out.

Notes:

  • Name your main html page index.html or index.htm. This way it will load automatically when someone goes to your URL.
  • We do not support FrontPage extensions.
  • We do not allow members to use their own CGI scripts.
  • We do not offer domain name hosting at all.

Fun Stuff!

If you would like to chat with some of our staff or other Crosswinds members, go to the IRC Area and follow the directions for the Java applet there. If you have an IRC client and would prefer to use that, use the following to connect:

  • Server: irc.chatcircuit.com
  • Port: 6667
  • Channel: #Crosswinds
Speaking of IRC... the server we keep our channel on is a great place if you're looking for a place for your IRC channel. The folks that run Chatcircuit are very friendly and helpful. Check out their web site here. We're quite happy there and recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly, family atmosphere for their IRC channel.

Check out our on-line Java Games (Tetris, Checkers, Crossword, Asteroids, Blackjack) in our on-line Games Area.

For MUD (multi user dungeon) listings and reviews, take a look at our MUD List.

A couple of new things we have that you might enjoy, a humor section, our own Crosswinds Kitchen and the Smagmathers. They can all be found in the newly expanded Entertaiment area.

Looking for romance? Check out LuvMatch, an on-line personals service!

Again, welcome to Crosswinds. We hope your experience with us is a good one. We have a lot of things in the works to make our service even better in the coming months. If you have any questions about your account that aren't covered here, feel free to write to user@crosswinds.net.

Scott Holmes,
Crosswinds President
